This presentation was filmed in Sydney, Australia in 2009. Tim presents his conversion story in full detail with a bonus Q&A session.
Tim Staples, an internationall recognised apologist, author and radio show host, was raised a Southern Baptist. After falling away from the faith in which he was raised, he returned to his faith by watching televangelists. Tim joined the US Marine Corps soon after, and during his enlistment, he became involved with Christian ministry, moving from his Baptist roots to various assemblies of God Communities.
During his final year in the Marines, however, Tim met Matt Dula, another Marine, who really knew his faith. Matt challenged Tim to study Catholicism from both biblical and historical sources. That encounter sparked a two year search for the truth. But Tim was still sure that Catholicism was a non-Christian religion.
After his enlistment was over, Tim, desiring to remain involved in ministry, enrolled at Jimmy Swaggart Bible College, and soon after, he became an Assembly of God Youth Pastor. As an Assembly of God Youth Pastor, and Singles Ministry Leader, Tim used his knowledge of the Bible to attack the Catholic Church, causing many Catholics to question their beliefs and successfully convinced some Catholics to leave the Catholic Church.
Tim was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he soon found himself embracing the beauty and riches of the Catholic faith so abundant in Sacred Scripture. Tim ended up studying his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church! Stales gave up his you pastorate in the Assemblies of God church and converted to the Catholic faith in 1988. Since then Tim's brother, whom he shared his reasons for conversion, has become a Catholic priest and Tim graduated with a degree in philosophy, summa com laude from St Charles Borromeo Seminary in Oerbrook, Pennylvania. Tim next studied graduate level theology at Mount St Mary's Seminary at Emmetsburg, Maryland for two years.
As a convert, Tim approaches the subject of Catholocism a bit differently than most. For Tim, just knowing what Catholics believe isn't enough, his goal is to show why we belive.
