Saints: a Year in Faith and Art / Rosa Giorgi

Portrays more than 375 Catholic saints, arranged by the days of the year on which each is honored. The images range from world-famous works of art by such masters as Caravaggio, Rubens, Velazquez, and El Greco to more modern and lesser-known depictions. Author Giorgi has chosen up to three saints for each day of the year and has composed a brief accompanying description of each, including etymology of names, historical background, and patronage. Rosa Giorgi is an art historian who specializes in iconography and iconology; in addition to writing, she teaches at the Catholic University and the Brera Picture Gallery in Milan. She is involved with many art organizations, including the Italian fine art commission. Her most recent publications include books on Caravaggio, Velasquez and El Greco. She is also the author of Saints in Art (2002) and Angels and Demons in Art (2003).
