Fr Werenfried: a Life / Joanna Bogle

Almost a legend in the modern Catholic Church, Fr Werenfried van Straaten was known and loved throughout the world thanks to his powerful message of forgiveness and love, and its fulfilment in the work of his charity, Aid to the Church in Need. Although known to generations as "the Bacon Priest" because of his practical approach to fundraising, Fr Werenfried never neglected the spiritual hunger of the poor and dispossessed. He always remaining a fearless witness to eternal truths of the Catholic Faith - and his writing has been an inspiration to millions.

 

His life and work span one of the most desperate periods of the Church's history; a period when - against all odds - terror and despair were often overcome by faith, hope and charity. His was a steadfast voice for the forgotten and the adandoned, and for modern martyrs for the Catholic Church.
