Around the Boree Log is a wonderful collection of Catholic verse written by Msgr Patrick Joseph Hartigan, better known to the world as John O'Brien. Father Hartigan was Parish Priest at Narrandera, New South Wales from 1917 to 1945. He was made a Prelate of Honour in 1947 and died in 1952.
Msgr Hartigan also wrote a series of historical articles for the 'Australian Catholic Record' which appeared from 1943 to 1945.
There are more than 70 poems in this volume,amongst which are "The Trimmin's on the Rosary", "The Old Bush School", "The Church upon the Hill", "At Casey's after Mass", "My Curate's Motor Bike", "Said Hanrahan" and many, many others.
And if you should ever drive through Narrandera, take the time to stop and visit 'The Church of St Mel's' and say a prayer for John O'Brien' who has entertained so many over the years with his wonderful, Catholic verse.
