A marvellous insight into the journey of the relic of St. Francis Xavier, as it travelled Australia on its 2012 Pilgrimage of Grace. Not only do we have here the personal diary of the relic’s custodian for the trip – Fr. Richard Shortall, S.J. – but also pieces on the relic itself and its reliquary, a homily on St. Francis Xavier’s life and the influence that this Saint might have on us in the 21st century and a meditation on the life of the Saint written by Fr. Shortall in the 1st person singular. Fr. Shortall’s diary is particularly endearing as we read about the joys and the sufferings of this 15,000 km pilgrimage. What a remarkable journey and one that certainly pays homage to this great Saint of the Church. As this Year of Faith draws to a close, let us take this opportunity to enrich our Faith even more through the continuing story of St. Francis Xavier in Travels with My Brother.
