Every Step with Jesus Following the Saints in the Way of the Cross / John Collins

The Stations of the Cross, one of the oldest forms of prayer and meditation, began as the practice of pious pilgrims to Jerusalem who would retrace the final journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary. We, too, can walk the pilgrimage to the Passion with Every Step with Jesus: Following the Saints in the Way of the Cross.

As you begin your journey through Christ’s last hours, you will walk with saints who experienced the Way of the Cross in their lives. These men and women of faith serve as models for us when we are called to walk the Way of the Cross in our own lives. Some of the saints include:

• St. Catherine of Sienna
• St. Augustine
• St. Teresa of Calcutta
• St. Francis
• St. John Paul II
• St. Therese of Lisieux
• St. Thomas Aquinas
• St. Pio of Pietrelcina

Through a brief biographical sketch of each saint, scripture quotes, reflection, and prayer, you are led through the darkness of the passion and into the light of the Resurrection. The saints help us see that the Resurrection is already present in each station.

Every Step with Jesus is a new and fruitful way to consider the Way of the Cross, not just in public display, but in our private meditation and reflection. Pray through one station per day or week. Choose a station to help you focus on a particular need or intention. Taking every step of every day with Jesus we become more like him, and become more able to take his light out into a darkened world.

He began a long association with Father Benedict Groeschel during the 1990s when both of them worked to support the cause of canonization of Cardinal Terence Cooke.
