The Mouth of the Lion describes how Bishop Antonio de Castro Mayer fought to preserve tradition in the Diocese of Campos, Brazil. He taught his priests and his laity how to hold the faith against the ravages of the 'Spirit of Vatican II'. After he retired, his priests were banished from their churches, ostracised, physically threatened, but they held fast. Msgr de Castro Mayer voted in the negative to every proposition at Vatican Council II, and, after a short time, refused to have any contact with the Brazilian Episcopal Conference.
