Christian Perspectives for Education: a Reader in the Theology of Education / Edited by Leslie J. Francis & Adrian Thatcher

Since the late 1970s a great deal of original thinking has taken place across the English speaking world on the relationship between theology and educational theory and practise. This reader brings together for the first time key articles originally published in theological and educational journals in Australia, Canada, the USE and the UK by Anglican, Free Church, Roman Catholic and Muslim writers, including internationally acclaimed scholars like Professor Brian B. Hill (Australia), Dr John M. Hull (UK), Professir Randolph Crump Miller (USA) and Dr Elmer J. Thiessen (Canada).

The editors maintain that the theology of education has a crucial contribution to make in the evaluation and development of the work of schools and colleges, of equal standing to the perspectives offered by the philosophy of education, psychology of education and sociology of education. 

The reader illustrates perspectives from biblical, feminist, liberation, process and evangelical theology. It dicusses church schools, church colleges, cultural pluralism, indoctrination, religious education, moral education, personal and social education, spirituality and the curriculum. It addresses many of the controversial issues emerging in the wake of the 1988 Education Reform Act (UK).
