This sequel to H.G. Wells’ 1895 classic The Time Machine tells of the Time Traveller’s second “voyage” into the future, accompanied by Lt-Gen Robert Baden-Powell (future founder of the Boy Scouts), to equip the Eloi to resist the marauding Morlocks. Where Wells’ story was a subversive attack on Edwardian optimism, Colebatch’s story is a striking contrast to Wells’ pessimism.
