The Theotokos of Vladimir (Mother of God of Vladimir) is an iconic 12th-century Byzantine icon, famous in Russia as a miraculous protector, depicting the Virgin Mary tenderly embracing the Christ Child (Eleousa type) with their cheeks touching. Originally from Constantinople, it arrived in Kievan Rus' as a diplomatic gift and became a national palladium, safeguarding Moscow from invaders like Tamerlane, used in coronations, and is now housed in Moscow's Tretyakov Gallery.
