This is now believed to be the original masterpiece of which The Imitation is a later, edited edition, with additions. Many believe Groote's original book is even better than The Imitation. A great masterpiece in its own right: brief one-sentence gems of spiritual wisdom; conveys the true Christian outlook--that "we have not here a lasting city" (Heb. 13:14), but must prepare for the one to come.
