Christ, Mary, the Church and the Peoples Pope Francis' Mariology / Carlos Maria Galli

The Pope is first of all the pastor of the Church and sign of its unity. He can be a theologian professionally, or he cannot be, as it has happened for the majority of popes. ln both cases, in his teaching as well as in the choices he makes or in the orientations he offers, his teaching and his style are imbued with a theological perspective and ask theologians to confront with them.

Pope Francis is passing on to the Church a spirituality, a pastoral approach and a theology, all focused on the revolution of God's tenderness, of the Father rich in mercy, made manifest in the face of Christ who died and rose again.  This tenderness is communicated in the gift of the Holy Spirit.  We can read his love for the Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and his teaching about May, in this context.

About the Author

Carlos Galli, priest of the diocese of Buenos Aires since 1981, earned the doctorate in Theology in 1993.  He is professor and Dean of the Faculty of Theology at the Pontifical Argentine Catholic University.  Advocate of the Theology of the people and expert in Ecclesiology and Pastoral Theology, he has written numerous essays on Francis' theology.  He was President of the Argentine Society of Theology and he is currently a member of the International Theological Commission.
