How far should we take our guilt towards the blacks? And how should blacks respond to an academic tradition established by whites? Do we need to rewrite the curriculum, to found a "blackademe", in order to make blacks as visible in the books as they are in the streets of modern Britain? If so, what should be changed? These questions are not academic; on the contrary, they lie at the heart of a new intellectual endeavour, which is to produce a black-centred curriculum, and to overthrow the cultural hegemony of "racist Britain." Does Roy Kerridge go along with this attempt? You've got to be joking.
